Imphal: The first state level Basic Sport Climbing coaching course began on Tuesday at Kangla Rock Wall, MMTA, Minuthong.
The course was being organised by IMF North East Zone under the aegis of MMTA and Manipur Sport Climbing Association under the sponsorship of ministry of youth affairs and sports.
It was inaugurated Bijoy Kaskchingtabam, president MMTA in presence of G.Anita Devi (Padmashri), chairperson Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North-East Zone with 110 Participants participated from different parts of Manipur.
The participants were given classes in various sport climbing activities such as bouldering, speed climbing, lead climbing, rope knot classes.
All the Participants took active Initiative and Wholeheartedly. This camp was organized to improve their self-esteem, confidence, co-operation and a sense of discipline through the spirit of sportsmanship, Dr K. Romeo Meetei, secretary IMF NE Zone and course director, said.
He narrated about the development and prospects of sport climbing in Manipur. He said scope of sport climbing in Manipur is immense, although lack of High tech and standard climbing wall system in Manipur stunted the growth of Sport Climbing but still Manipur has produced many National and Asian Champions.
If the government provides a international standard wall in Manipur then many Olympians will come out from Manipur in near future, he added.
The event was conducted by following SoP’s of Covid-19. It will continue till Thursday.
