Imphal: Pigs for rearing which were imported from UK are now at Punjab and will be brought to the state after the cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) are fully controlled.
This was stated by veterinary animal husbandry minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh on Saturday.
The minister visited various livestock and dairy farms. First he visited the Porompat Dairy Plant, Intensive Cattle Development Project complex, Porompat followed by Marjing Pony Complex, Pangei in Imphal East, Hiyanglam Piggery Farm, and Regional Buffalo Breeding Farm, Wabagai in Kakching.
During the field visit, Lukhoi checked the facilities and infrastructures being set up to ensure it is fully functional. Lukhoi told reporters that the state government is always committed towards the growth of economy in the state in which animal husbandry and veterinary department will continue to play a vital role.
While expressing satisfaction on the maintenance of the farms, he assured that the chief minister will be consulted to enhance the budget of the department for upgrading its facilities and infrastructures from prevailing condition and improve the surroundings of the farms to prevent from emitting any harmful diseases from the animals.
