Imphal: In continuation to assist people to make themselves economically self reliant chief minister N. Biren Singh continues to disburse loans to different people and groups to make themselves.
Biren distributed loans worth around Rs 3.9 crore to 1520 beneficiaries under Manipur State Cooperative Bank Ltd. (MSCBL) in a function held at te chief minister’s secretariat. The assistance was provided as part of Prime Minister’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abiyan to help the beneficiaries practice different occupations like dairying, poultry, piggery, duckery, fishery, and also to run Self Help Groups. It was the 4th such Credit Linkage Programme organized by the bank.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced many noble schemes to especially help needy people. Distribution of loans is a part of his Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, which aims at making people economically self reliant, amid Covid-19 pandemic, Biren said.
Some people used to make mockery of Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders’ Day in the beginning. However, the government has been able to help hundreds of hard working people in the form of loans through Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders’ Day, he added.
He said MSCBL alone had provided loans worth over Rs16 crore to different people, who came on Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders’ Day so far. Now, all these people are running their business successfully and repaying loans regularly, he added.
He expressed gratitude to different banks operating in the state for extending full cooperation to the government in this regard. He said banks providing maximum help to the people would be definitely rewarded. Stating that the government is fully committed to rehabilitate poppy growers, the chief minister informed that National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has assured help to the state government in this regard.
