Imphal: Sericulture Minister Awangbow Newmai today inspected the various Seri farms of the beneficiaries along with Sericulture Director L. Kunjakishore Singh and officers in Imphal East district. The Ministerial team visited the Seri farms and nursery located at Ishingthembi, Lairok Kom, Yumnam Khunou, Tangkham, Leitanpokpi and Khewa Phurju Pukhao.
Stating that it is not quite feasible to provide Govt jobs to all that citizens of the State, he said it is a huge avenue for the unemployed people of the State to generate income of their own with the help of the various Govt schemes like which is availed under the Sericulture Department.
Giving assurance that he will make sure to provide all possible help to the beneficiaries, he said he is satisfied with the work of the beneficiaries who are working whole heartedly to produce more raw silk material.
Stating that he will visit all the Seri farms located in Imphal West and Bishnupur districts within this week, he said that the purpose of the visit is to know the ground reality and to interact with the beneficiaries (farmers) to know the various issues faced by them.
He further said that there is huge demand of raw silk material which the State is unable to fulfill. He said that the raw silk materials are bought either by the Sericulture Department or by weavers so there is no need for the beneficiaries to worry about the market place to sell their produces.
While inspecting a Seri farm at Leitanpokpi, a farmer expressed his happiness over the visit of the Minister. Stating that no minister has visited the Seri farms earlier, he said that the visit has encouraged him to work harder and demanded the minister to provide a reeling machine so that he is able provide employment to his unemployed daughters.
