Imphal: All the necessary security measures and COVID-19 pandemic precautions have been taken up in the 4 assembly constituencies which will go on polls on November 7. Voters will have to wear mask and gloves while casting their votes.
Speaking to media persons, Manipur Chief Electoral Officer PK Singh said that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure maximum precautions sanitization of all the polling have been completed. Voters will go for thermal screenings before entering the polling booth and they will be provided with mask and hand gloves as well. PPEs have also been arranged for the polling personnel. Health workers, trained ASHA & Aganwadi workers would also be placed outside polling booths with protective gears, he added.
He said 898 postal ballots have been issued for senior citizen voters above 80 years, people with disabilities and those individuals who are under quarantine, home isolation or COVID-19 treatment and 17,065 electronic postal ballots have also been issued for those who are in services.
For peaceful voting, 5 Company of Central Armed Police Force are deployed in addition to state police forces. Speaking about the armed cadres under Suspension of Operations (SoO), he said they are allowed to cast their votes at their respective camps and movements are restrained and monitored.
