Imphal: In order to boost the non-motorised transport under the Central government’s ‘India Cycles4Change Challenge’ mayor of Imphal Municipal Corporation L. Lokeshwor Singh along with director, MAHUD and CEO, Imphal Smart City Limited, Th. Harikumar Singh and other officials from Imphal Smart City Ltd. and Traffic Control Police, Imphal conducted Handle Bar Survey for the routes where a pilot cycle route is being proposed under the challenge.
The survey aims to collect feedback from different groups of citizen to understand the main points from a cyclist perspective and further plan to improve the existing conditions.
The India Cycles4Change Challenge is being organised by ministry of housing and urban affairs (MOHUA), where Imphal is also one of the participating city along with 95 other smart cities of the country, to select 11 winning cities. The wining cities will be awarded a sum of 1 crore each to improve the cycling condition in the city. The India Programme of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy is the knowledge partner of the Smart Cities Mission in conducting this challenge and guiding cities through it. Through this challenge, the registered cities will implement quick interventions to create a safe and cycling-friendly city. develops and implements the proposals.
Along with more than 120 citizen volunteers and cyclists, bicycle mayor of Manipur Dr Sanjib Singh Nepram and Manipur Adventure and Mountant Biking Association president RK Sanajaoba participated the survey.
