Imphal: Proprietor of Romi Bag Industries, Khumbongmayum Dhanachandra on Friday presented 100 “PPE Body Full Cover” suits to chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh.
Biren, on his Facebook wall, says “Most grateful to Romi Bag Industries, Thangmeiband, Imphal for donating 100 PPEs to the state government for distribution to the frontline Covid warriors.” He said he is delighted to learn that the PPEs are Made in Manipur products of Romi Industries, approved by the DRDO-DRDGE, Government of India.
Four days back Dhanachandra presented 100 similar PPE suits to health minister L. Jayantakumar.
The PPE suits presented to the ministers are to be used by healthcare professionals in the frontline. The PPE suit produced by Romi Bags Industries costs Rs 950.
The product was approved on July 22. It took 45 days for the approval, Dhanachandra said
He has been supplying PPE suits to volunteers at community quarantine centres and hawkers of milk and food. So far he has sold about 2000 PPE suits.
His firm has donated more 3000 mask to media houses, police and friends.
“I am producing masks and PPE suits to contribute something to the society at my ability. “I want to be a successful contributor in the society,” Dhanachandra said.
Dhanachandra started earning producing cloth made wallets in 1996. Gradually he began to produce school bags with the trademark “Romi Bags Industries” and registered his farm in 2003. In 2005 he expanded his business producing school shoes, raincoats and uniforms.
In 2017 he owned a foreign shoe producing machine and started supplying school shoes.
Dhanachandra was awarded with a national award—“Special Recognition Award for Entrepreneurship, National Award, 2007” for his school bags production.
He has been engaged as visiting instructor for bag making trainees at Institute of Cooperative Management, Imphal.
His story has been added in the syllabus of Class XI NCERT Business Studies book for the academic session 2020-21.
Dhanachandra has three product outlets in Imphal, and two factories.
With the enforcement of lockdown he has shutdown his outlets. However he continues producing at his worksheds and at the new workshed at Takyel Industries in Imphal, provided by the state government.
He said his employees are divided in groups and works in 15 alternative days maintaining Covid-19 lockdown SOP. He said there is neither pending nor reduction in the salaries of the employees.
He is targeting to produce additional 5000 suits. At present 100 PPE suits are produced per day at the firm.
