Imphal: The Rejuvenation and Conservation of Nambul River project with estimated costs of around Rs 95 crore is successfully taken up along the polluted stretch of the river from Iroisemba to Heirangoithong area Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said.
Biren made the remark as he inspected the Nambul river stretch from Keishampat to historic Thong Nambonbi on Thursday.
He planted tree saplings along the Nambul river from Wahengbam Leikai to Keishampat Junction.
Under the Rejuvenation and Conservation of Nambul River project sewage pipeline would be constructed along both sides of the river from Iroishemba to Mongsangei in order to prevent sewerage falling into the river directly, the chief minister said.
He maintained that the urban waste would be treated by using latest technology at the Mongsangei water treatment plant area.
Highlighting the importance and peculiarity of Nambul river Biren said the tree sapling plantation of Bougainvillea along the river banks of Nambul river from historic Thong Nambonbi to Keishampat is being taken up so as to attract tourists and beautify the landscape.
