Website for skill mapping launched

Imphal: Labour and employment minister Thokchom Radheshyam on Saturday launched the website www.mssd.in at his office here.

The website has been developed for online data collection of skills experience of the Covid–19 returnees of the state,  the minister said.

The skill mapping exercise will be conducted by Manipur Society for Skill Development (MSSD) under department of labour and employment.

The launching of the website was attended by the additional chief secretary labour and employment, Letkhogin Haokip, additional secretary labour and employment Th. Chitra, mission director, Manipur Society for Skill Development Kh. Diana Devi and officials concerned.

The minister said it is a crucial time for the state as challenges of economic downturn are being faced due to Covid-19 pandemic. He stressed that the website will be focused towards skill mapping of the citizens of Manipur who have returned back to the state, after giving up their respective jobs, due to the pandemic.

As per data of category wise returnees available, the returnees were earlier employed in different sectors such as restaurants/hotels, private companies, retail, health care, salon/parlours, BPOs, Airlines, private banks, among others, he added.

He pointed out that the website will help in creating a database based on their skillsets and experience to tap into and fulfill demand of private companies of the state and the country.

It has put up a Skill Data Proforma to be filled up by the returnees of the state so that the collected information can be shared with the concerned stakeholders such as state government departments, empanelled Training Providers/ Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Facilitators etc.

Radheshyam appealed to returnee denizens to fill up the online Skill Data registration form by visiting the website www.mssd.in and register their skill data. He expressed that the collected skill data will also facilitate government policy making through discussions with key stakeholders.

He said the department is trying every effort to address the challenges faced by the migrant workers both due to migration and reverse migration and bridge the demand-supply gap.

The government is committed to provide every possible support to Covid-19 returnees of the state and the challenges they are facing due to job losses.

Replying to a query from the media persons regarding the current scenario in education sector, Radheshyam who is also the minister of education said the career and future of the students cannot be compromised. He said considerations are underway for relaxation of the required paperwork / document in the transfer process for students to the educational institutions of state from other states.

While appreciating the contributions of the private school in the state, the minister appealed to furnish the information sought by the government to enable in solving the problems.

The minister stated that as per the Right to Education Act (RTE) no student up to the standard of VIII can be detained or failed whether examination is conducted or not and that all the students must be promoted.  He also appealed not to bind the young children of classes up to Standard V in the online classes as the devices are addictive and harmful to the minor children.
