Imphal: Police could not establish involvement of IRB personnel in the Luwangshangbam tobacco case.
In a press statement by Officer in Charge of Heingang Police Station, the investigation team examined local people including daughter-in-law of Laishram Purnima Devi (70) w/o (L) L. Birachandra Singh of Luwangshangbam Mamang Leikai – from whose residence the tobacco were seized. “On her examination, the involvement of uniform personnel like IRB could not be established,” the statement added.
In connection with the case, Waikhom Punibati (42) and her husband Waikhom Sanayaima (57) of Luwangsangbam Mamang Leikai, Rambali Mahato (37) s/o Suraj Mahota of Masajid Road and Santosh Gupta (35) s/o Siyaram Shah of Batoliya, Chitambari, Bihar presently staying at Thangal Bazar were arrested. However, they were released on bail, the statement added.
