Imphal: Manipur Police has arrested three persons for using fake signature of chief minister N. Biren Singh in two letters written to the director of Jawharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, Dr Bhimo Singh to appoint some individuals as staff at the medical institute.
The three involved in the forgery were arrested on Monday and produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal east on the same day. The court remanded them in police custody for three days.
The arrested persons were identified as Nongthombam Ibomcha Singh, 47, son of late N. Angoucha Singh of Pourabi Mayai Leikai, Ninghui Keishing, 66, son of Releng Keishing of Bungpa Khunou village and Khoinaijam Dijen Singh, 48, son of late Kh. Kharekpa of Samaram Mayai Leikai.
Superintendent of police, Imphal East, Jogeshchandra Haobijam told reporters here on Tuesday that the JNIMS director reported at Porompat Police station on May 29 complaining that copies of the purported to be false U.O (unofficial) letters carrying the signature of Manipur chief minister were sent to his office on January 31 last year and January 17 this year for consideration of some individual during the selection of JNIMS staff.
Accordingly two cases were registered at Porompat Police station. During the course of investigation the three persons have been arrested in connection with the case. They have admitted the commission of the crime and police are trying to nab some other co-accused, he added.
Those involved in the crime will be given befitting punishments, the police officer said.
He appealed to the people to verify properly if someone assures them to appoint in the related posts at the medical institute.
