Imphal: A 24 years old COVID-19 recovered patient girl from Imphal East was found dead hanging in her room on Sunday morning, the last day of her 14-day home quarantine.
She was treated at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal and discharged after confirming negative of COVID-19.
The deceased was resident of Pebiya Pandit Leikai, Imphal East which falls under the jurisdiction of Irilbung Police station.
The girl returned from Delhi on May 28. Since then she had been at community quarantine centre opened at Bashikhong community health centre.
One of the medical officials of the community health centre said she was tested for COVID-19 on May 29 as she had fever and the she was re-tested on June 1 and found positive for the disease. She was then admitted at JNIMS hospital on June 2 for treatment. After given treatment she was discharged from the hospital and advised for home quarantine on June 14 as her test result came negative, the official added.
One of the family members of the deceased said no mental disorder was found during her period of home quarantine. But on Friday she shaved her head. When asked the reason of shaving her head, she told that it is the trend to shave head. She told the family members that she will be meeting her friends after her home quarantine, the family member added.
On Saturday night after having dinner the family members left her in her room but on early morning she was found hanging inside her room, the family member said.
She has been pursuing her post-graduation at Chandigarh and also trying to appear for civil service examination.
According to her family member she was infected with dengue when she was in Delhi.
A team of police along with forensic team took the body for autopsy at JNIMS following the protocols and safety measures.
A person from her locality said the cause of death might be due to mental stress due to social stigma.
He said the authority, especially medical experts need to give awareness to those who undergo home quarantine to avoid social stigma.
