Imphal: Team of Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles recovered 262 grams of Brown Sugar that would worth lakhs of Rupees on Thursday.
A statement released by Assam Rifles on Saturday said at around 4:15 pm of Thursday a team of Tengnoupal Battalion stopped an Eeco van bearing eegistration no MN 06 LA 8241 (silver colour) travelling from Moreh to Imphal. On carrying out thorough checking of vehicle, the Brown Sugar was recovered.
On enquiry, it wa found out that the vehicle was being driven by Thangginkap Haokip, 28 son of Hemkholun Haokip, resident of Mata Lambulane, Churachandpur sub-division, Churachandpur.
The Apprehendee and the recovered items have been handed over to Moreh Police station for further investigations, the release said.
On same day, Chandel Battalion, based on specific input recovered 41,187 packet of WIN cigarette worth lakhs from three Eeco vans and one Bolero near Monsang Pantha. The recovered items along with apprehended individuals were handed over to Chandel Police station, it added.
Due to the lockdown of COVID-19, the movement of contraband items have been on the increase on the Imphal Moreh Axis, troops of Tengnoupal and Chandel Battalions of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) have been resolute in stopping the drugs movement in Manipur in back to back incidences, the release said.
