Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh and education minister Th. Radheshyam greet the people of the state on the occasion of International Workers’ Day.
In his greetings Biren said May Day, the International Workers’ Day marks the celebration of labourers and the working class worldwide, which commemorates past labour struggles against a host of worker’s rights violations, including lengthy work days and weeks, poor conditions and child labour.
“We are going through an emergency healthcare challenge arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic. To shield ourselves from the morbidity and mortality of the pandemic, the government has been compelled to take stringent measures affecting economic and social spheres of life. Livelihoods of wage earners and labourers are amongst the most affected by lockdown measures,” he added.
“I am grateful to the working class, wage earners and bread earners, who have been giving 100 % cooperation to the steps taken up by government to come out of this crisis even as they face the economic hardships head-on with resilience and fortitude.”
He said he was thankful to the good samaritans, CSOS, social workers and the common man who have come out to help labourers, the poor and the needy.
“On this May Day, let us together come out of this healthcare challenge hand-in-hand together,” Biren said.
Education minister in his greetings said, “I would like to seek physical as well as moral support from every member of the society to win the fight against Covid-19, which can be achieved through strict discipline.”
Let this commemorative May Day bestow us with strength to face and overcome the challenges and bring a prosperous future, he added.
