Pothashang, Imphal, 31 March, 2020: Many individuals from Manipur are suspected to have been attended the religious congregation held at Delhi’s Nizamuddin from March 13 to 15.
According to Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma (as he twits) as many as 456 people from Assam took part in the congregation.
A document containing names, phone numbers and addresses of 299 persons from Assam who have attended the religious congregation called Tablighi Jamaat is going viral on Whatsapp, but its authenticity could not be confirmed till the filing of this report. As many as eight persons from Manipur are in the list.
Phothashang team tried to reach out to the persons listed in the document, but all the contact numbers provided in the list could not be reached.
Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh has appealed to the people from the state who have participated in the congregation to come forward for testing.
In his Facebook post, he said, “If there is anybody from Manipur who had attended that congregation, organised by Tablighi Jamaat at Delhi’s NIzamuddin, between March 13 and 15, you are requested to come forward and get yourself tested for COVID-19. The religious congregation was attended by nearly 2,000 people, including foreigners. Please call helpline number – 1800-345-3818.”
As many as 24 people from Delhi who had attended the congregation have tested Covid-19 positive and at least 6 people from Telangana have died.
According to Delhi government, as many as 441 people who attended the religious meet at Nizamuddin have shown symptoms of coronavirus.
The ministry of home affairs, said there were about 1,746 people staying in Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz as of March 21. Out of these 216 were foreigners and 1,530 were Indians.
A 52 years old man from Karimganj, Assam have tested Covid-19 positive being the first case in Assam.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted “A 52-year-old person has been found positive for Coronavirua and is Assam’s first Covid-19 patient. He is undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College. His condition is stable”.
