Pothashang News Service : Imphal, February 27: The common area development (CAD) department has taken up command area development and water management programme in five on-going projects.
The programmes are cluster of the 213 M.I. schemes under Imphal East, Imphal West and Churachandpur districts with a culturable command area (CCA) of the project is 9643 hectors, out of which 1448 hectors had already been achieved. 215 M.I. schemes under Thoubal, Ukhrul and Chandel districts with CCA of the project is 9043 hectors, out of which 1118 has been achieved 169 M.I. schemes under Bishnupur, Tamenglong and Senapati districts with CCA 8889 hectors, out of which 1087 already achieved. The CCA for Thoubal Multipurpose project (Phase III) 16536 hectors and Dolaithabi Barrage project is 5500 hectors. Both the programmes will be started implementation from this financial year.
The additional chief engineer, CADD, Suresh Singh Ningombam said the main objectives of the department is to integrate all the activities critical for increasing agricultural productivity and production in the commands of the project leading to better utilization of created irrigation potential while addressing a press conference at DIPR complex today as a part of a Series of Press Conference for highlighting the developmental activities of the government.
For the command areas project, Water Users’ Association has been formed by involving the farmers with the object of taking over the irrigation system.
Suresh said a new scheme from the ministry of textile, has also been taken up in order to promote the uses of geotextile materials for lining up water reservoirs or ponds, which would preserved water and irrigate the surrounding fields by proving water pumps and other irrigation facilities during dry seasons.
A sum of Rs 278.43 lakhs has been earmarked for construction of another six numbers of water reservoirs/ ponds along with Lining of Conveyance system are also being taken up added Suresh.
