GOVT. COMMITTED FOR ALL ROUND & BALANCED DEVELOPMENT: CHIEF MINISTER

IMPHAL, 6th FEBRUARY, 2018 (DIPR): Manipur Legislative Assembly today unanimously adopted the Motion of Thanks on Governor’s Address which was delivered on the first day of the ongoing Budget Session, i.e. on 2nd February, 2018 in the Assembly. The Motion was moved for discussion in the House by Shri P. Saratchandra Singh and seconded by Shri Awangbow Newmai.

Participating in the the discussion, Leader of the House and Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh said that the address given by Governor Dr Najma Heptullah has reflected the commitments made by the government which are being fulfilled in the last months and various initiatives which are being taken up by the government to ensure a better living to the people. He said, just after the formation of this government, with the slogan “Go to Hills”, the government is trying to reach out to the people in the hills which has received tremendous support. To nurture emotional integration and attachment among various communities in the State and to access their grievances, a number of initiatives have been taken up by the government. Chief Minister further said, the main thrust of the government is to ensure for an all round, equal and balanced development in the State. A number of new social security schemes like Chief Minister Gi Hkselgi Tenbang, Chief Minister Gi Sothrabasingi Tengbang etc. have been launched and which is benefiting the targeted beneficiaries. With an aim to reach out to the people of the State living outside the state and their safety, a website has been launched through which they can contact the government in need and getting support from the government, he added.

Speaking on insurgency, law and order situation Shri N. Biren Singh said, the problem of insurgency has reduced considerably and law and order situation has also improved significantly. Peace talks with insurgent groups have been continuing and Rehabilitation & Surrender Policy have been reviewed to enhance one time grant-in-aid and monthly stipend to the surrendered insurgents in the State.

Chief Minister further said that connectivity which is a thriving force for development has been improved and the focus is towards improving National Highways, State Highways and major roads in the State. Rural connectivity has also been improved and further improvement will be made. He also said that various sectors like fisheries and tourism which the Government is trying to develop to cater to the needs and generating income.

Earlier, Shri P. Saratchandra Singh while moving the Motion said, the Governor’s address has reflected the hopes and aspirations of people in the state. He said, the government is committed to ensure an all round inclusive development. The address reflected major reforms in various sectors like food security, healthcare delivery system, connectivity, housing , social welfare, tourism and sports etc.

Shri Awangbow Newmai seconded the Motion and said that various initiatives taken up by the government has brought positive changes. 10 banks in unbanked blocks have been opened and 11 are in the pipeline.

Later, the House unanimously adopted the Motion of Thanks on Governor’s Address.
