Imphal, February 23, 2018 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh said that the government would try its best to improve the police-public relationship by holding talks with various stakeholders in the State. This was stated by him at the closing function of the 6th All India Police Archery Championship, 2017 held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal today.
Speaking as the Chief Guest of the function, Chief Minister said that with the advent of the new government, rationalisation of transfer and postings of Police personnel are being introduced in the State. He reminded that recognizing the potential, credibility and performance in the field of sports, the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind has declared Manipur as “Sports Capital City of India” during the NEDS 2017 at Imphal. He also mentioned that many sportspersons from Manipur have brought laurels for the country in various International Championships and Competitions.
Congratulating the BSF team for emerging as Champions in the tournament, Chief Minister said that he represented the BSF team in various Police Sports tournaments. He also said that he would request All India Police Sports Organisation to conduct the All India Sports Meet including disciplines like football and hockey in the State next year. He stressed that many Police personnel have received many prestigious awards including Dronacharya Award in the country.
Chief Minister said that policepersons hardly get a break from their never ending duty. He stated that organising such tournaments would provide an opportunity amongst the police personnel to create a network with the police of different States.
It may be mentioned that the tournament was being hosted by Manipur Police under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board. Altogether police teams from 19 States and Union Territories and other defence forces such as Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, ITBP, RPF and SSB took part in the Championship.
DGP, Manipur Shri L.M Khaute, Additional Director of Intelligence Bureau and in-charge of All India Police Sports Control Board Shri Sheel Vardhan Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Vineet Joshi, top police officials and police personnel attended the closing function.
