Imphal: Film Forum, Manipur has cautioned to launch various forms of agitations by March 11 if the government fails to take up concrete steps to implement the Manipur State Cine Policy, 2016 and also to revive Film and Television Institute with sufficient teachers and infrastructure.
Secretary of the forum, Ngangbam Ghanashyam Singh talking to the reporters at Manipur Press Club today said the Manipur State Cine Policy was approved by the previous government in 2016 however the present government has on August 28,2017 denounced the policy. It has been five months now without any further appropriations by the government, he added.
The ongoing budget session of the assembly does not discuss the issue clearly showing that the policy will not be implemented, said Ghanashyam.
He said the Film and Television Institute which was inaugurated by the previous Congress government in September 2016 is lying latent with no proper infrastructure and suitable teachers and students. He urged the government to revive the institute for the sake of film lovers in the state.
A reminder has been sent to the government on February 7 to look into the matters of film fraternity. If the government remains silent, film forum will launch different kinds of agitations with the support of civil society organisations by March 11, said Ghanashyam.
