Imphal, January 26, 2018: Two kidnapped employees of Hindustan Construction Company who are engaged in the railway construction work in Manipur were safely rescued by state police.
They were kidnapped by armed KNLF-MC militants on the intervening night of January 18 and 19 at Kangchup area.
The police reacted quickly and hunted for the kidnappers and launched a joint operation by Kangpokpi, Imphal West and Churachanpur police.
On the basis of informations curled from various sources the police were able to apprehend two suspects Sonkhigin Kigen @ Hegin@ Gin @ Kenedy@Joshua 43, son of late Letkholun Kipgen of Phiakot at present residing at Tuibong, Churachandpur, self style commander in-chief of KNF-MC and Ngamkholen Kipgen @Lelen@ Joel, 45, son of Kaikholal Kipgen of K Muojol, another important cadre of the group at present residing at Renkai Churachandpur on Wednesday. The arrested persons revealed that they belong to KNLF-MC group.
Based on the clues revealed by the arrested militants, rescue operations were launched since Wednesday night. The two victims were rescued from Phailenkhot range, Motbung area yesterday. The kidnapers guarding the company staffs fled seeing the police. The two company employees were handed over safe and sound to the company officials today.
Adressing the reporters at his office Lupheng Kailun said in this rescue operation we got support from the locals besides the in formations supplied from the police intelligence department which made the mission successful. The police department has also intensified its presence in the areas where most of the kidnapping have taken place specially along the National Highway 37, and National Highway 2 as well. There are many constructions and development works going on specially the railway and highway constructions, added the senior police officer.
In the last few months some kidnapping cases have been taking place and most of the victims have been rescued successfully till today. We have also increased the number of securities amid the construction companies engaged in the interior areas of the state. We have also increased our presence among the locals in these areas and increased coordination with the intelligence and the central paramilitary forces deployed in this area, said Kailun.
Saying that kidnapping for ransom is a crime which does not require support from the public, rather the public should support the police department in curving these activities, the senior police officer said, “Only with the support of the public we will be able to contend this milieu”. Unless this kidnapping for ransom is controlled we will be lagging behind in the path of development, added Kailun.
