MHRC WILL BE REVIVED SOON: CM

Imphal, January 27, 2018 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh has said that Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) will be revived soon.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the 16th Foundation Day celebration of ISTV Network held at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) auditorium yesterday.

The Chief Minister informed that advertisement for the appointment of two Members of MHRC had already been issued.

Saying that the situation of substance abuse is very alarming in the State, Shri N. Biren said that the Government would do whatever possible to root out drugs.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector of police was arrested with a huge quantity of drugs recently, he said while adding that he had instructed the authority concerned to penalise the officer befittingly.

Lauding the progress made by ISTV in the past 16 years, the Chief Minister said that the local TV Network has set a fine example of success in joint ventures. He said that transparency and sincerity are the keys to unity and oneness.

The Chief Minister assured that his Government would extend all possible assistance in switching the Network to a satellite channel.

Stating that Manipuris are talented people having a glorious civilization, the Chief Minister said that the State would touch the zenith of advancement if its people learn proper utilization of time and money.

Asserting that the new Government is committed to serve the people as per their wishes and aspirations, Shri N. Biren said that there is no point in forming a new Government if it is unable to bring a change. He said that many social security schemes had been introduced apart from taking up some concrete steps to eradicate corruption.

Further mentioning his Government’s achievements, the Chief Minister said that necessary steps had already been initiated for the smooth functioning of Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC).

Regarding Imphal Evenings, the Chief Minister said that the reason for coming down in number of visitors is cold weather. Saying that many shops are now seen open till late night at Thangal Bazaar and Paona Bazaar after the introduction of Imphal Evenings, the Chief Minister expressed hope that such new developments would be witnessed in other townships as well.

Health Minister Shri L. Jayantakumar, CAF and PD Minister Shri Karam Shyam and PHED Minister Shri Losii Dikho also attended the celebration as guests of honour. The function was presided over by ISTV President Shri P. Praphullo Singh.

The Chief Minister feted the executives of ISTV at the function.
