Imphal, January 08, 2017 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh met the officers/officials of the newly constituted Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.
During the meeting, the officers were informed about the rationale for setting up such a new Department. The Chief Minister told the officials that the Department was created so as to bring transparency and remove corruption in the functioning of the Government.
Shri N. Biren also explained the officers that corruption leads to lack of trust in the Government by the people.
Since the Government is seriously concerned to tackle this menace in a time-bound manner, the officials were personally advised to work effectively without any fear and favour.
It may be mentioned that the State Cabinet approved re-designation of the State Vigilance Department as the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department on January 4, 2018.
The office of SP (Vigilance and Anti-corruption) will now function also as the Police Station (Anti-corruption), which shall have jurisdiction over the entire State of Manipur.
The Department will deal specifically with trap cases and disproportionate assets cases.
The Department will also designate Nodal Officers for coordinating with the Anti-Corruption Cell in Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
