Imphal: First ever state level film festival for the tribal concluded today with its closing ceremony held at Amity Hall of Adimjati Complex, Chingmeirong in Imphal.
The 3-day festival was organised by State Level Tribal Films’ Festival Committee, Manipur.
Deputy CM Yumnam Joykumar Singh said film is an important medium to take the lead to cultural integration and peaceful co-existence among communities in the state. Film festivals are not only a showcase but also a right platform to exchange cultures of various communities in the state.
Film reflected social atmosphere from time to time and it gives us the message to re-think on issues which can be addressed collectively or individually. Noticing resemblances in culture and traditions in films the minister said for development of a good human relationship and to foster peaceful co-existence among communities, such festivals should be held together along with the other films produced in the state. Number of tribes and sub-tribes with different culture and traditions have inhabited in Manipur for the last so many years. Despite having such differences, people in the state are enjoying festivals together which shows the uniqueness of unity in diversity, he added.
Stating that Government is trying to develop film production in the State, Deputy Chief Minister said, a Film & Television Institute has already been established to train people working in the field and to nurture new talents. He appealed people to take opportunities from the state Film and Television Institute.
Joykumar distributed presentations to the directors and producers. Altogether eight films from Zeliangrong, Anal, Chothe, Kuki, Tangkhul, Aimol and Inpui were screened in the festival.
Chairman of the festival committee Dr. Gairiangmei Maringmei submitted a memorandum urging to open film theatre in all the hill district headquarters. It appealed to earmark funds for organising state Level Tribal Films’ Festival annually and to give financial assistance for conducting awareness campaign, seminars and workshop on tribal film making.
