Imphal, December 2, 2017(DIPR): Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Smt. Nemcha Kipgen exclaimed that if we have more people like Renu, Manipur will be economically developed through cooperative society. She stated this on the opening ceremony of 28 branches of the Renu Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited held today at Hotel Classic Grande, Imphal.
Minister hails Arambam Renu Devi, founder of The Renu Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited for her tireless efforts and for dedicating her whole life for the cause of a goodwill society and upliftment of women’s condition. She also lauded the services rendered by Renu for economically uplifting the poor and needy.
On this occasion, Nemcha draws the attention of all the cooperative society to come forward and be a part of change in enhancing cooperative movement in the state. She highlighted that the cooperative societies in Manipur has improved considerably as compared to few years back and as such, there is a scope for enhancing skill development as well as curbing the issue of unemployment in the state. She also appeal to all the people to have a habit of paying loan in time so that the bank can invest more to the cooperative societies for expanding and developing further.
It may be mentioned that Renu Devi, who received the prestigious National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Laxmanrao Inamdar National Award for Co-operative excellence award on 21st September 2017 as well as in 2012, is recognized as a strong-willed and determined lady entrepreneur who takes care of the poor and the needy.
The society which started its setup with 130 members in 1992 has today constructed two work sheds for handlooms and handicrafts separately with 36 embroidery machines and 26 handloom machines. It aimed for the upliftment for the socio-economic development of the members and specially works with a concern for the women empowerment. Her products are sold in different parts of the country and also exported to other foreign countries like Italy, Germany, China, Bangladesh, to name some.
Political Advisor to Chief Minister Manipur, Dr. R.K. Ranjan Singh, Ex-Minister Dr. Khashim Ruivah, Ex Chairperson, IMC, Shri Moirangjao Gangmei also graced the occasion as President and Guests of Honour respectively.
