Imphal, 6th December, 2017 (DIPR) : On the closing ceremony of the 1st Governor’s Trophy (State Level Mukna Kangjei Tournament, 2017) Imphal West ‘B’ won 1st Governor’s Trophy (Mukna Kangjei) by defeating Thoubal ‘A’ (5-1) at 1st Manipur Rifles Parade ground, Imphal today.
The closing ceremony was graced by Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly, Shri Y. Khemchand Singh, Education Minister Shri Th. Radheshyam Singh and Sanghchalak, Manipur Prant Shri A. Brajakumar Sharma as Chief Guest, President and Guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion Speaker Shri Y. Khemchand appreciated the organiser for organising such an indigenous games at State level. He had a great hope to revive the indigenous games of the State and expressed his desire to organise the event at district level in future.
Shri Th. Radheshyam Singh in his presidential speech said that Mukna Kangjei is an indigenous game which needs to promote. The players should maintained maximum discipline and think how best did I play the game. We should encourage indigenous games and sports. It also nurtures friends and brotherhood among people.
Later, the dignitaries give away the winner trophy and Rs 20,000 cheque to Imphal West ‘B’ and runners up trophy and Rs 10,000 cheque to Thoubal ‘A’ team. As part of the closing ceremony, Pung Cholom and Thang-Ta were exhibited by various artists.
The 1st Governor’s Trophy (State Level Mukna Kangjei Tournament, 2017) was organised by Kreeda Bharati, Manipur which began on 2nd December, 2017 with 10 teams are participating in the tournament.
Mukna Kangjei is a game combined the arts of Mukna (like wrestling) and Kangjei (cane stick) to play the ball made of Seasoned Bamboo roots. The game is played by two teams each consisting of seven players.
