Imphal, December 31, 2017: Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has cautioned the mushrooming educational institutions which are motivated with business ideals and sought public support to jot out such institutions.
DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba Meitei cautioned the institution in the student body’s annual programme “Meet the Press” held at its Sagolband office today. The student leader said DESAM is all set to strictly monitor those institutes which are profit makers.
He said as education is a must in making a better society and DESAM has been working at the best level to uplift education in the society.
Growing numbers of tuition and coaching centre in the state has spoiled the formal education and at the same time the emergence of numerous schools and coaching centres is more like operating business.
DESAM appreciated the contribution of the state journalists in giving information and reporting news to the people. Without the help of media, it is impossible to bring development in a society, said Angamba.
He recalled the recent threat to All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union president by some politician and burning of newspaper, and said such act and threat against freedom of media is very unfortunate.
The pen of a journalist is mightier than a nuclear weapon and media takes a very big role in shaping a society, added Angamba.
