Imphal, November 19, 2017 (DIPR): The curtain-raiser of the biggest tourism festival of the State, Manipur Sangai Festival was held with mesmerizing display of cultural dances and music at YICC Ground, Keibul Lamjao in Bishnupur district today.
Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh graced the grand occasion as the chief guest. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Y. Joykumar, Ministers, MLAs, top civil, police and military officers also attended function.
Addressing the gathering, Shri N. Biren said that people would face no difficulty in earning their livelihood if tourism flourishes in the State. In order to attract large number of domestic and International tourists, the State needs to promote itself to the world as a peaceful place, he said while adding that no tourist wishes to visit any trouble-ridden country or State.
The Chief Minister also exhorted the public to convey their grievances to him or any Minister or MLA concerned before resorting to any agitation on any issue.
Reiterating his Government’s commitment to serve the people with utmost sincerity, the Chief Minister said that the new Government aspires not only to preserve and protect the history of the State but also to create new history with its innovative accomplishments.
Stating that it has been a dream of the people of Keibul Lamjao to witness Manipur Sangai Festival near the original habitat of Sangai, the Chief Minister stated that people’s wish has now been fulfilled with the coming of the new Government.
From this year onwards, some programmes of Manipur Sangai Festival would be compulsorily held at Keibul Lamjao every year, he assured.
Seeking cooperation from the villagers in this regard, the Chief Minister urged the villagers to make the visitors feel homely during their visit to the village.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister also flagged off Sangai Run Half Marathon at Sendra. The half marathon, which was organised as part of Manipur Sangai Festival, had three categories viz. Half Marathon (21 km), Loktak Run (7.5 km) and School Run (3.5 km).
Later, the Chief Minister also inaugurated Loktak Inland Transport Complex at Sendra.
