Imphal, October 7: People peacefully started casting votes for the 5th General Panchayat Election polling from 8 am in the 6 (six) Revenue Districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching and Jiribam.
The election will elect 60(sixty) Zilla Parishad, 161 (one hundred and sixty one) Pradhan and 1,513 (one thousand five hundred and thirteen) Ward Members.
A total number of 7,16,830 electors will exercise their franchise, 3,68,691 are females and 3,48,139 are males.
Altogether, there were 1,521 polling stations opened and 9,126 polling personals were engaged, out of which 10% are reserved as stand by.
Polling will close at 4 pm.
In case of any election misconduct, re-polling will be held on October 9, 2017. The counting will begin on October 11, 2017 and the entire process of election will be completed by October 16, 2017.
The 6 (six) Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of the respective districts served as the District Election Officers, 14(Fourteen) Returning Officers (ROs) and General Observers looked into the smooth functioning of the election process.
Electronic voting machines were not used and people caste votes through ballot paper system.
The elections were conducting smoothly so far till the filing of this report.
