Imphal, September 10: Promising muscle man, champion of Asian Body Building Sport, Laitonjam Rishikanta Singh of Manipur is representing India in the world body building sport contest to be held in Mongolia in October 2-9, for which ‘Prosperous Manipur’, an Imphal based social organisation seeks moral and financial support from the people of Manipur.
Rishikanta bagged gold in the ‘51st Asian Body Building Championship, 2017, Junior Mr Asia 70 kg + Open Gold’championship held this August 22-26 at Seoul, Korea. This was his first international appearance. He has been selected to represent India in the 9th Word Body Building and Physique Sports Championship to be held in October at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. He will be contesting in the 75 kg + category (Junior Open).
He has so far participated in as many as 29 contests at the district level, state, national and international championships. He started his career in 2013 participating in the Imphal West body building championship. Rishikanta is 21 years old and continuing his graduation in Imphal. He is from Patsoi, Imphal West.
Talking to Pothashang, Rishikanta said, “I love body building and I will strive for my motherland to bring laurels in Her name.”
Rishikanta is at present training at a gym at Tera Sapam Leirak, Imphal West. His coach Sapam Joychandra has been guiding him in various aspects to make Rishikanta shine for Manipur.
General secretary, Prosperous Manipur Thounaojam Bonbihari has sought the people of Manipur to give moral and financial support. At least a sum of Rs. 2 lakh is required for the muscleman to participate in the coming world championship in Mongolia. Diet supplement is another issue for a body building contestant.
So far many individuals and companies have given support to Rishikanta with blessings. Zydus Pharma and La Renon, companies of Ahmedabad have contributed Rs. 15, 000 each. Mangal Pharmacy, Imphal has also contributed Rs. 10, 000 in support of Rishikanta’s vision. Contributions are flowing in the donation pouch.
Bonbihari thanked the well wishers and those who gave all kinds of support to Rishikanta.
Ch. Ananda, a local said, “It is unfortunate to rejoice only at the time when a person brings laurel for the state. We need to encourage and give support to those who need help while challenging for noble competitions.”
With the name itself Prosperous Manipur has been helping needy people. The group had rendered support services and distributed affordable needed items in the recent mass flooding in the state.
Bonbihari said his organisation deals with humanity service. They (members) build fund to help others by sharing at their level. “We can help the people even by cutting a meal in a month or reduce the menu in our meals”, said Bonbihari.
Rishikanta is the eldest of three. He is the only boy in the family. His parents are daily wage earners and they are unable to give such a huge financial support for their son’s participation in the coming world body building championship.
