Imphal, September 15: The Kangleipak Students’ Association, KSA and the JCILPS Students’ Wing, today warned of stern agitation against all non-locals if non-local candidates contesting in the ensuing Panchayat election do not withdraw from their candidatures.
The KSA warned them to withdraw by September 20.
KSA President Moirangthem Lakshman told the reporters at KSA’ s office in Imphal said, a total of 71 non-local candidates–14 in Kanglatongbi, 16 in Serou, 34 in Jiribam, 2 in Waiton and 5 in Saiton, are contesting in Panchayat election. It is against the spirit of KSA’s movement to save the original people if the state.
Lakshman urged the non-local candidates to withdraw failing which KSA will initiate a strong agitation from September 22.
Students’ Wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has also appealed the deputy commissioner concerned to take up necessary action to cut-off the names of the non-local candidates.
Talking to the reporters at JCILPS office, convener of the Students’ Wing, Sarangthem Manjit said election posters written in Hindi and Bengali seen at Nganu-kon and Khurkhur indicate that the numbers of local indigenous people in the areas are decreasing.
He said, if the government remains as a mere spectator in the issue, severe forms of agitation will be launched.
