Imphal, September 17: All Jiribam Linguistic Minority Peoples’ Organization (AJLMPO) has urged the Kanglepak Students’ Association (KSA) and Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) to wthdraw their statement of bannning non-locals participate in the 5th gram panchayat election that falls on October 7.
KSA and the JCILPS’ students’ wing on Thursday warned of stern agitation against all non-locals if non-local candidates contesting in the ensuing Panchayat election do not withdraw from their candidatures.
KSA said a total of 71 non-local candidates—4 in Kanglatongbi, 16 in Serou, 34 in Jiribam, 2 in Waiton and 5 in Saiton, are contesting in Panchayat election and it is against the spirit of KSA’s movement to save the original people if the state. The KSA warned them to withdraw from their candidature by September 20 and warned to launch strong agitations fromSeptember 22 if fails to withdraw.
Reacting against the ban imposed by the two bodies, AJLMPO has asked them to withdraw their statement published in newspapers. The Jiribam organisation had a meeting on Wednesday which condemned the ban imposition against the non-locals, terming it as unconstitutional and undemocratic.
The Meeting was presided over Sushil Namasudra, senior social worker and vice-president of AJLMPO.
The meeting took the resolutions that—KSA and JCILPS arc not the authorities to establish some one’s identity: they are organizations/association for the welfare of the general masses. They have not been empowered and publish unconstitutional and undemocratic statements which hamper one’s fundamental rights. So, they should withdraw their statements immediately.
All contesting candidates in the forthcoming panchayat election will not withdraw their candidature but in association with other organizations, clubs, civil societies, students organizations etc will face any consequences if arise as per threat of KSA and JCILPS.
The support of local MLA in favor of any contesting candidate of the election for Jiribam constituency which has been given by the MLA without public consultation should be withdrawn with immediate effect.
If any untoward incident including communal tension arises in this connection in Jiribam district, the the state government will be responsible. The KSA and JCILPS which has no knowledge about legendary history of Jiribam and human habitation and settlement of Jiribam should not to create communal tension among different communities living in Jiribam peacefully and communal harmony since time immemorial through their provocative statements.
With these resolutions taken, the Jiribam organisation has also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh and other concerned for taking appropriate action.
Biren Singh on Friday had intructed the concerned DCs to look into the banning of non locals.
The fifth panchayat election will be held in six valley districts—Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal Bishnupur and Jiribam districts to elect 60 Zila parishads, 161 pradhan and 1,513 ward members.
