SEVEN POWER SUB-STATIONS COMMISSIONED ON THE OCCASSIONS OF PATRIOTS’ DAY AND INDEPENDENCE DAY

In this age of globalization and industrialization, there can be no development in a society without power supply, Power Minister Shri Thongam Biswajit Singh said after inaugurating a 33/11 kV Sub-Station at Mao today.

In connection with the Patriots Day and the 71st Independence Day celebrations, the State government has completed and commissioned seven numbers of 33 kV sub-stations namely Henglep (2x1mMVA), Oinamlong (2×2.5MVA), Gelnel (2×2.5MVA), Ukhrul Khunjao (2×2.5MVA), Phungyar (2×2.5 MVA), Chakpikarong (2×1 MVA) and Mao (2×5 MVA). Minister Biswajit Singh formally launched the Mao Sub-station today.

Addressing the formal inaugural function at Mao, the Power Minister said BJP stands for development. He further added that, the new government led by the BJP aims to bring equal development in the State.

Stating that the present power requirement of the State is 170 MW at peak hour and 80 MW at off hour, he said we have sufficient power of 200 MW.           He continued the government is also trying to increase the power intake of the State by replacing single circuit by double circuit towers at Yurembam Power Station and others.

Minister Biswajit said with the installation and inauguration of the 33/11 kV Sub-station at Mao, there will be quality power supply in the area. He said earlier the area was supplied power from Tadubi Sub-station through long 11kV lines which always caused heavy system losses and frequent interruptions. The previous sub-station at Tadubi is just 3MW while the new sub-station at Mao is 10MW, he said justifying his assurance that the new sub-station will provide quality power supply to the nearby villagers.

There are further plans of the government to install 11 more sub-stations including at Kachai in Ukhrul, Liyai Khunou in Senapati, he said.

Minister Biswajit also said that the Power companies and the State government have a target to provide 24×7 power supply in all areas of the State by December 2018. He said installation of AB cable at 24.2 km in Senapati district, and more than 4250 prepaid meters have been installed and around 500 activated under token generation system which is continuing in the district.

The minister also called on the people to support and cooperate with the power companies and the government for sustainable power supply in the State. He further urged to the public for timely payment of bills to the companies.

Meanwhile, replying to a memorandum submitted by the Mao Students Union, Minister Biswajit assured to look into the demands which include upradation of an IVR in Mao and construction of a Skill Development Centre in Mao.

PHE/ Printing and Stationary Minister Shri Losii Dikho, who is also the local MLA thanked Minister Biswajit and officials of the Power companies for their sincere and committed involvement in the successful installation of the 33/11 Sub-station.

In his address, Minister Dikho said earlier the power supply in the Mao sub-division was so bad that the people could get only about two hours of power supply in a day.

He further expressed optimism that the newly inaugurated sub-division will provide quality and uninterrupted power supply in the area. He said the community leaders, local leaders, student leaders have the responsibility to look after the sub-station. He said the public should also pay their bills to enjoy uninterrupted and quality power station, and added until and unless the public support the government, the government cannot do anything.

The present government is a very serious government, he further said.

Today’s inaugural function was also attended by Autonomous District Council, Senapti members, Manipur State Power Company Limited Managing Director Shri N Sarat, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited Managing Director Shri L Priyokumar.

The 33 kV Sub-station at Mao was funded by the North East Council with a project cost of Rs. 9.79 crores. With the commissioning of this sub-station, power supply to consumers in the nearby villages/ institutions like Ashufii, Pununamei, Rabunamei, Kalinamei, Chowainu, Mao Bazar, Phikhomai, Sochuwa, Don-Bosco Colony, Kayinu, Okhro-Ikhro, AR Mao Post, JNV Mao, ICCP, Shirapfii, Potato Farm, Pudunamei will improve.
