Imphal, August 31 : Felicitation Ceremony of Manipur Girls Team which won the National Phase of ‘OORJA’ U-19 TALENT HUNT TOURNAMENT was organised by 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) at Mantripukhri. The tournament was conducted in three phases wherein football clubs from all over the State participated. The selected teams of both boys and girls participated in Zonal Tournament at Shillong, wherein the girls team emerged as champions and the boys team was Runners Up. In the National phase held at New Delhi, the Manipur girls team completely dominated the tournament and emerged as Champions winning the trophy and cash prize of Rs 5,00,000.
Speaking on the occasion Major General Virendra Singh, VSM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) highlighted the contributions of Department of Youth Affairs & Sports and All Manipur Football Association, brand ambassadors and parents of the girls for their support, motivation and achievements. He also reaffirmed the commitment of Assam Rifles to support and help the budding talent in Manipur in the field of sports. A special recruitment rally under sports quota for sportspersons is planned to be conducted at Shillong. A large number of players who participated in ‘Oorja’ have applied for the recruitment in Indian Army & Assam Rifles. HQ IGAR (South) is providing them all the help and assistance for their enrollment.
Brigadier J S Bainsla, Commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles renowned sportspersons of the State, including Ms Bembem Devi, Mr Renedy Singh, parents of the team members, Student of Assam Rifles public School drawing inspiration from the victorious girls and officers of IGAR (South) were present on the occasion.
