Imphal East police today seized 800 litres of distilled indigenous country (DIC) liquor from two traffickers at Wangkhei Ayangpali road, Imphal East.
As a part of drive against illicit liquor by Imphal East district police, under the instruction of superintendent of police, Imphal East Kabib. K (IPS), and under the supervision of DSP (CAR)/IE Roni Mayengbam (MPS), a team of narcotics cell led by OC narcotic inspector P. John along with team in civvies of Narcotic Cell Imphal East while frisking and checking at Wangkhei Ayangpalli road at around 6:30 am seized the DIC liquor from two individuals –Seleibam Sanjit Singh (40) son of S. Khomei Singh of Wangkhem Mamang Leikai and Puthem Ranjit Singh (40) son of (L) Dharma Singh of Andro Khunou Leikai in two Maruti van.
The seized liquor would worth Rs. 80, 000. The two person along with the liquors were handed over to Excise Station Porompat through Porompat police station for further necessary legal actions.
On April 1, 1991 the then chief minister R.K.Ranbir Singh declared Manipur to be a dry state. The prohibition was lifted from Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul disticts on July 31, 2002.
