Residents of Nongmeibung drew the attention of the chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh for improvement of Imphal East roads connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical sciences and Imphal East DC complex by widening and installation of street lamps, on the third Meeyamgi Numit.
The resident who met the chief minister submitted their appeal along with a set of maps indicating the roads. They complained that the important roads in Imphal East leading to JNIMS and Imphal East District Head Quarter at Porompat are in very bad condition causing huge inconveniences to patients moving to JNIMS and to public and employees going to various offices at DC Complex and therefore need immediate attention.
The roads mentioned for improvement are Singjamei Bridge to Lamlong Bazar via Kongba and Ayangpalli road : 6.40 Km Length; Kongba Bridge to Minuthong via Konung Mamang : 3.80 Km Length; Sanjenthong to Tellipati Via Nongmeibung and Soibam Leikai : 2.5 Km Length; New Checkon Traffic Point to Top Khongnag Makhong : 2.2 Km Length; Minuthong to JNIMS Gate Via Soibam Leikai Ahongei: 0.90 Km Length; and Minuthong to Khurai Chairen Thong via Lamlong : 3.5 Km Length.
It was made clear to the chief minister that these roads are inconvenient as they possess deficiencies of insufficient width, absence of road dividers, street lighting, traffic control measures at intersections, absence of traffic signs along the roads and lack of side drains for proper drainage resulting in frequent flooding and damage to roads.
The complainants were of the opinion that the improvement of the said roads will greatly help the patients and patient parties to reach JNIMS and public and employees to reach various offices at Imphal East District Head Quarter conveniently in the shortest possible time. This also will lead to the diversion of traffic from the Babupara road as well as other congested roads of Imphal West and thus help in traffic control and management.
They urge the chief minister to direct the concerned departments for the immediate improvement of the roads for public convenience.
Biren Singh responded that he would see over the matter after the present monsoon resulted problems are minimised, said one of the complainants while talking to Pothashang.
“We made the appeal for common cause as we are given the opportunity to make complains for the welfare of the people on Meeyamgi Numit (Peoples’ Day)”, he added.
The BJP led government under the leadership of chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh launched the Meeyamgi Numit with the objective to listen to the grievances of the people. “We hope our chief minister would act positively on our proposal” said the complainant.
