The indefinite general strike in Thoubal and Kakching imposed by Thoubal District MP Candidature Demand Committee has disturbed the normalcy in the districts.
The demand committee had cautioned to impose indefinite general strike in Thoubal and Kakching districts demanding to select a representative from eight assembly segments for the ensuing Rajya Sabha by-election to be held on May 25.
The eight segments Heirok, Wangjing Tentha, Khagabok, Wabagai, Kakching, Hiyanglam, Sugnu and Jiribam which consist of 2, 35, 182 voters has been violated for 65 years, complains the demand committee.
For these long years, the voters are allowed to vote only but they were not allowed to represent in the Lok Sabha election, said Yengkhom Thambal Singh, ex-MLA and convenor of the demand committee Thambal alleging that voters of the eight assembly segments has been treated as second class citizen.
These constituencies which are included in the outer parliamentary constituency are reserved for Schedule Tribes. However, the voters in these segments are not allowed to send their representatives at the parliament as they are non-tribal.
