The flag off ceremony was jointly organised by Rotary Club of Imphal and Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal (Rotary International District 3240) as part of the Rotary Literacy Campaign. The campaign was mainly taken up to spread awareness to eradicate illiteracy among girl child.
Dr.Najma Heptullah said that Rotary Club has done a great humanitarian service apart from its discussions and meetings. It is indeed amazing to learn that women Rotarians are travelling to 24 countries in 70 days to spread awareness to the people on girl education. This campaign, to spread awareness to educate girl child, is very much related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme. But one should be aware of what kind of education one should give to a girl child, added Najma.
It is time to go out and explore the world to know the life of the people living in other parts of the world and we should also make the people know about our people. We should be proud of our own culture and history and carry forward the ancient legacy. We should be proud to be an Indian, added Najma.
Boxing icon and Rajya Sabha MC Mary Kom, special health and family welfare secretary Jacintha Lazarus, renowned personality L. Tonthoingambi, archer Bombayla and polo player Asem Romabati, were also felicitated on the occasion held today.
