All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) today observed the 37th Realisation Day and reaffirmed to continue its movement to safeguard the indigenous people from extinction.
Sarangthem Manjit, president of the students’ union told the reporters that the two students’ ancestors sacrificed their lives in the anti-foreigner movement and honouring them will not be complete if we do not follow their steps. “We will continue our movement for the future generation and demand to adopt a law to screen influx of outsiders”, added Manjit.
The day was observed under the aegis of AMSU to honour the students—Huidrom Loken and Potshangbam Premananda who lost their lives in police firing on agitating students during an anti-foreigner movement spearheaded by AMSU on April 17, 1980.
Floral tribute was paid to the martyrs at memorial site located at Pishum Chinga hill. Students, relatives of student martyrs and members from civil society organisations took part at the annual occasion.
Later, a rally was marched from Pishum Chinga up to Manipur College where a commemorative function was held to mark the day. A blood donation camp was also held with the observance of the day.
