An overall total of 86 percent of voters cast their vote in the 11th Manipur State Assembly Election as against the 79.80 percent of the last assembly election, despite of chaos at some constituencies.
Six congress workers were kidnapped last night at Phungyar assembly constituency of Ukhrul and there were clashes among voters at Chingai assembly constituency which halted voting at two polling stations of Chingjaroi. Two EVM machines were destroyed—one at Chingjaroi polling station and the other at Poiyo polling station.
In Chandel too an EVM machine was destroyed by miscreants at Komlathabi polling station.
All the machined were replaced after few hours and continued voting.
In Tamenglong district polling at seven polling stations were completed at the noon. One of the polling station in Ukhrul district also completed polling before noon.
Elections in almost all the remaining constituency went peacefully.
Chief minister Okram Ibobi talking to reporters at his constituency said congress will continue its government even through BJP tried hard blaming the government.
Irom Chanu Sharmila said people showed me their smiles, but I cannot say what are in their minds. If God is in their hearts and love me I will win.
Surchandra, Congress MLA Kakching constituency said we have been properly running the government and we will continue it as we have spelt out in our manifesto. They (BJP) cannot publish their manifesto, their BJP vision document is a wish thinking list not a manifesto, they didn’t have any commitment for Manipur. We have commitment for the state manipur. So, people know it, if we fail to form the next government we will leave our villages, added Surchandra.
Rameshwar, a BJP candidate contesting at Kakching said, in the past 30 years after Manipur got statehood no government has addressed the separate problems and issues till today. As a young leader what I want to is to address those issues, added Rameshwar.
