The Assam Rifles has taken up several civic action programme in different fields rendering various services to remote areas of Manipur and celebrated Shangshak day.
In a press statement released today, the 27 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR (South) presented water supply equipment and solar street lights to village KhamasomKhullenof Ukhrul district on 26 March 2017.Village KhamasomKhullen has been facing acute water crisis and provision of the much needed pipeline stores by Assam Rifles will effectively mitigate the hardships being faced by the villagers for long. Also the villagers often have to brave situations of erratic electricity supply for extended period of time. The solar lights were handed over to the overjoyed villagers by the Assam Rifles who urged them to utilize it for the benefit of the common man. Village Authority of Khamasom Khullen conveyed their heartfelt gratitude for the consistent support being received from the Assam Rifles towards overall development and progress in the region. They also mentioned that such initiatives would go a long way in strengthening and fostering the bond of friendship between the local population and Assam Rifles.
The 6 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organized a free medical & dental camp at Andro Kharam Leikai of Imphal East district on 26 March 2017. The medical camp was conducted to provide medical relief to the needy patients with different ailments. A total of 210 villagers including 56 children, 81 males and 73 females attended the camp and were administered necessary treatment and distributed free medicines. Andro Kharam Leikai elders thanked 6 Assam Rifles for their gesture, added the statement.
The 2 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) donated a toilet block to Nangbrang village as part of Assam Rifles Civic Action Project. The toilet block was inaugurated by Company Commander of Chandrakhong Company of 2 Assam Rifles on 25 March 2017. This project was undertaken as a ‘Elimination of Defecation in Open’ venture part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. The ceremony organized by 2 Assam Rifles was held at Nangbrang village was attended by village chairman & locals. The Company Commander conveyed that Assam Rifles is deeply committed towards the progress of the remote villages Stationery items for school going children were also distributed during the event.The villagers appreciated the continued efforts of Army and Assam Rifles and conveyed their wholehearted support to the organization. They also conveyed their sincere thanks to 2 Assam Rifles for reaching out to them and helping them creating a valuable asset in their village.
The 29 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) also constructed a toilet block at Village AibolJoupi, district Chandelunder Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme for the year 2016-17.Playing part to achieve national objective of “Swach BharatAbhiyan” unit has undertaken construction of toilet block at AibolJoupi, the model village. Which is a very remote & close to Indo-Myanmar border, where there is no presence of civiladministration. The construction of toilet block will definitely help in spreading cleanliness in the village and will avoid spread of communicable diseases due to open defecation. It is another step towards attaining the national objective and improving the health and hygiene quotient of this remote village. The locals have highly appreciated efforts taken by Assam Rifles in improving hygiene standards of the village.
Paying homage to the war heroes of World War II who made supreme sacrifice for the motherland fighting invading Japanese Forces, 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) conducted a wreath laying ceremony at Shangshak war memorial on 26 March 2017. The Battle of Shangshak epitomizes Civil-military cooperation in case of adversity. Besides the personals of British Indian Army numerous civilians also laid down their life in the battle and their names are engraved on the war memorial.
The memorial is located atop village Shangshak and the ceremony was attended by many civil and Assam Rifles dignitaries including nearby villagers to remember the history which gave shape to the fall of Japanese attacking Forces. Wreaths were presented on behalf of IGAR (South) and Commander, 10 Sector Assam Rifles by Commandant 17 Assam Rifles on the occasion. After the ceremony certain items includes chairs, tables, CGI Sheets, water tanks were given to Ex-serviceman office Phungyar as one time help to Ex-serviceman. Villagers pledged to continue their support to armed forces in defeating the nefarious designs of enemies of the nation.
Continuing with the efforts to help locals get rid of the drug menace in border areas, 11 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) conducted a lecture and interaction on 26 March 2017 at Maojang village, Tengnoupal District. The interaction titled “Let’s make Manipur a Drug free State” was attended by 119 locals, including 20 males, 34 females and 65 children. The interaction aimed to lay emphasis on a drug free society by creating awareness amongst the local populace, particularly the youth. Basic medical checkup/treatment was given to 103 persons during the event. Continued commitment of the unit such yeomen services has received huge support and praise from the locals, said the statement.
