Renowned theatre exponent Late Padmashree Heisnam Kanhailal was honoured the “Khundongbam Brojendro Ningsing Mana” for his excellent contribution in the world of theatre.
The award has been presented for every three alternative years since 2008. The fourth edition of the award presentation ceremony was held at Dev Literary hall inside DM College campus in Imphal. The award carried a cash reward of Rs. 25,000.
Theatre activist Naoram Kalimohan Singh and Writer’s Forum’s president Lamabam Biramni were present among the dignitaries in the occasion. Kalimohan presented the award to the better half of the Guru Kanhailal, Heisnam Sabitri.
The award was instituted in memory of Khundongbam Brojendro who was the script writer of “Ichasha Ipa lamboirage”, a popular and evergreen comedy theatre of the nineties.
Kanhailal had won Padma Bhusan, Padmashree and Sangeet Natak Kala Akademi Award for Theare Direction in his lifetime. He was popular over the glove with his notable productions—Tamnalai, Kabui Keioiba, Draupadi and Pebet among many.
